The ACLU of Delaware has sent an open letter (below) to colleges and universities across the State, urging them to reject the Trump administration’s attempted censorship of students and faculty, and stand firm against any attempt to punish international and immigrant members of their communities for their beliefs. The letter comes in the wake of executive orders and statements from the White House that have pushed for schools to monitor and report noncitizen students for their political views—putting their educations and futures at risk.
ACLU-DE is calling on Delaware institutions to uphold the First Amendment rights of all those on college campuses, regardless of nationality.
ACLU-DE has initiated this effort alongside other state affiliates and the national American Civil Liberties Union. Colleges across the nation have been receiving ACLU guidance on how to adhere to free speech principles on campuses.
The following letter was sent on Thursday, March 6, 2025, to: Delaware State University, University of Delaware, Wilmington University, Delaware Technical Community College, Goldey-Beacom College, and Widener University Delaware Law School.
