Nearly a year ago, America stood still – horrified by what had occurred at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. In the year since, much dialogue has occurred about gun laws and the nation's mental health system. Meanwhile, other American schools have experienced their days of fear and bloodshed. A key question posed by Sandy Hook lingers:
What should we do to make schools safe again?
As the one-year anniversary of Sandy Hook approaches, WHYY will convene a community dialogue on this topic from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Dec. 7 at Arsht Hall, on the University of Delaware's Wilmington Campus.
Come add your voice and your insights to the conversation. Hear experts on school safety offer differing visions for what we should do. Discuss the issue with fellow parents, educators and taxpayers. Help draft a set of questions to drive WHYY's and NewsWorks.org's coverage of this issue in the coming year.
