LEGAL INTERNS BRING PASSION AND A HELPING HAND
Each summer, we invite a select number of law students to complete an internship in our office. This season, we welcomed three fabulous interns, each of whom brought a passion for helping the Delaware community to their work. Not only did we benefit from their excitement and helpfulness, but they walked away with in-depth exposure to constitutional law and sharpened skills that will prove necessary as they move forward in law school and their careers. We thank them for spending their summer with us and wish them well as they go back to school!
Frances "Franny" Glick

Franny spent two months with us, and said that her experience here exposed her to a variety of legal issues that she otherwise would not have encountered in law school.
My work this summer has not only allowed me to become a better advocate for civil liberties, but has also enabled me to use my legal skills to protect the interests of Delaware citizens. As a Delaware native, this has been an especially meaningful way to begin my legal career.”
Franny hopes to return to the East Coast after finishing at Michigan Law, and wants to practice corporate law while continuing her involvement with the ACLU. We’ll definitely welcome her back with open arms!

Shonterra interned at ACLU-DE through Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, LLP’s 1L Scholars Program. Under the program, the Skadden Wilmington office hires a student who spends one month at the law firm, one month at a corporation (DuPont this year), and two weeks at a non-profit. Shonterra was struck by the intrinsic worth of what we do every day.
I am thoroughly impressed by the quality of work that the Wilmington ACLU completes,” she said. “I know that the work I completed could change someone’s life one day and that feeling is incomparable.”
After passing the bar, Shonterra hopes to begin working at a law firm in Philadelphia, Wilmington, or D.C.
Meryem Dede

Meryem plans to pursue a career in the private sector, but, like Franny, says she is interested in doing pro bono projects for the ACLU when time allows.
In the last two months, I have learned a tremendous amount about constitutional law as well as how to write and communicate effectively in a legal setting,” Meryem told us. “From day one, I was given interesting and difficult assignments. Legal Director Rich Morse in particular has been a great teacher; I will return to school feeling more skilled as a legal practitioner and more knowledgeable in constitutional issues. The work that we do here is important and meaningful and I’ve been lucky to be a part of it.”
