The second half of the 150th General Assembly was unexpectedly abbreviated in 2020, leaving a lot of work left to do in the next legislative session. We’re ready to tackle some of the most important issues facing vulnerable Delawareans in 2021. Here’s a snapshot of our legislative priorities for the upcoming year.
Voting Rights. Giving all Dealwareans access to voting by mail was essential to safeguarding the foundation of our democracy — but the measure was only temporary. We must ensure that vote by mail becomes a permanent part of the way we do elections in Delaware.
Education Equity. With a settlement on the books in the state track of our Delaware Public Schools litigation, we’re one step closer to a more equitable education for all of Delaware’s students. We’ll be taking important next steps to ensure that the settlement’s funding commitment is followed through.
Smart Justice. Sentencing reform, probation reform, tackling fines and fees, and police reform are all on our list of priorities for next year. We’ll be fighting to end the antiquated “war on drugs” once and for all, cut the pipeline of probationers rotating back into prison, end modern day debtors’ prisons and lift up the urgent need for real, impactful police reform.
Our full list of legislative priorities will be announced in the new year. We can’t wait to share them with you and get to work together to make Delaware a better place for all of its residents.
We may not know what this year will bring, but we do know that we’re not backing down. We’re doubling down in 2021. Stay tuned.
