Grassroots Policy Forum: Building A "Movement of Movements"

January 6, 2018 @ 3:30 pm

From UUDAN:

"We will be kicking off the new legislative/advocacy year with a Grassroots Policy Forum sponsored by UUDAN. Progress springs from knowledge, and our Forum will include presentations by Kathleen MacRae, Executive Director of the Delaware ACLU, Alan Davis, Chief Magistrate, Delaware Justice of the Peace Court, and Jeffrey Richardson, University of Delaware Professor of Black American Studies. Our speakers will be addressing Justice Reform in the morning and Environmental Justice in the afternoon.

Our theme for this forum is Building a “Movement of Movements”. The phrase “Movement of Movements” is from the book Daring Democracy which is one of two Unitarian Universalist Common Reads for 2017-18. This powerful phrase perfectly captures the outpouring of organizational energy which is fueling progress in Delaware.

New Grassroots organizations including Network Delaware, Delaware United, and Delaware Women for Inclusion have quickly gathered large followings of committed volunteers who are systematically organizing to bring progressive change to the First State. Established grassroots organizations and non-profits in Delaware are also gaining funding and support.

New organizations are emerging which are coalitions of activist groups including the Delaware Civil Rights Coalition, the Racial Justice Collaborative, and the Progressive Action Network. These new organizations are fusing our Movement both thematically and geographically. This forum will celebrate and showcase our grassroots partners—new and established—in panels and discussion groups which will motivate and unify us for the coming year.

There is no cost to attend this forum, and a free lunch will be catered by the Olive Tree Café. We are asking for attendees make a reservation at Eventbrite to facilitate planning for this event."
