WILMINGTON — For the third year, the Delaware Voting Rights Coalition (DVRC) is organizing a public education campaign to inform Delaware voters about the upcoming 2024 Primary Election on Tuesday, September 10. The campaign centers around the re-launch of the comprehensive voter guide, How to Vote in Delaware’s 2024 Primary Elections, and features information on the races, the available voting options, and links to all the resources voters may need for additional election information. Voters can access print and digital versions of the voter guide, available in both English and Spanish, and downloadable voter information graphics to share on social media
The comprehensive voter guide features information on where, when, and how to vote this September. It includes links for easy navigation to voter information websites like VoteDelaware.org, ACLU of Delaware’s voter education website and Vote411.org/Delaware, the League of Women Voters’ voter education website. These sites feature detailed candidate questionnaires and information on events like candidate forums, allowing voters to learn more about the candidates running in their districts and their positions on key issues.
"Voter education is crucial this year, especially with the re-introduction of Delaware's early voting period,” said Jill Itzkowitz of the League of Women Voters. This year Delaware voters can cast their ballots early from August 28 to August 31 and September 3 to September 8 at any early voting location in their county. “This change presents a significant opportunity for increased voter participation, but it also requires that voters are well-informed about how, where, and when to utilize this new option. Voting is about having a choice and ensuring that every voter understands the choices they have is essential for maintaining a healthy democracy.”
"All elections have both short- and long-term implications,” continued Andrew Bernstein, Cozen Voting Rights Fellow at the ACLU of Delaware, “elections impact everything from local policies to national legislation, and this one is no different. That's why it's crucial that voters have the information that they need to cast their ballots for candidates of their choosing.” The ACLU’s Every Vote Counts campaign champions democracy reforms, right here in Delaware.
Similarly to last year, the voter guide also features key information about accessibility, an important legislative and voter education priority for DVRC. “At the core, our coalition’s voter education efforts are about ensuring the full and effective participation of every eligible voter, without facing unnecessary barriers. Information is only a part of the fight for election accessibility,” said Joann Kingsley Voting Rights Advocate with the Disabilities Law Program at Community Legal Aid Society, Inc. (CLASI), “We must continue to guarantee accessibility throughout the electoral process, including registering to vote, casting a vote privately and independently, and accessing polling places.”
With the primary elections less than one month away, DVRC encourages all voters to visit bit.ly/voter-guide2024 and make a plan to vote during Delaware’s early voting period beginning Wednesday, August 28, by absentee ballot, or in person on Election Day, Tuesday, September 10 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Those interested in getting more involved with the Every Vote Counts campaign are invited to join ACLU-DE and DVRC at an upcoming campaign training session in Lewes or New Castle. Learn more and register at bit.ly/evc-training.
